Who is Richard Bandler?
Richard Bandler co-created Neuro-Linguistic Programming with linguist John Grinder at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in the 1970s. Together they studied how exceptional therapists — Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton Erickson — got their results, and turned those patterns into teachable techniques; their book The Structure of Magic (1975) marks the starting point of the field. What does “certified by Richard Bandler” actually mean?
It means your training was run under a licence from Bandler’s organisation and your certificate carries his printed signature — not that he watched you work. The Society of NLP operates through licensed trainers: each one has been authorised within Bandler’s organisation, teaches to the Society’s curriculum standards, and issues certificates through their licence. An honest word about marketing: some course pages lean on Bandler’s name in ways that suggest personal mentorship. What it cannot do is substitute for the things that decide whether you can actually use NLP afterwards — supervised practice, honest feedback, and a trainer who watches you work. A famous signature on top of a weak training is still a weak training.
